Space Florida is the state spaceport authority. Inside statutory territory it holds property, issues financing, executes leases and runs the Spaceport Improvement Program with Florida Department of Transportation [SFLEG24] [SB968AN].
The clearest chain on this map runs through the Launch and Landing Facility, the former Shuttle runway. NASA transferred management of the runway to the authority, which holds a federal launch and reentry site operator license for it [FAASLF]. Amazon Leo, formerly Project Kuiper leases ground at the facility under the authority’s lease structure and built Amazon Leo satellite processing facility there, $120 million announced in July 2023 and a $19.5 million, 42,000 square foot support building bringing the site to nearly $140 million [SFKUI] [AMZKUI] [SFN139]. The facility processes and prepares satellites and ships them to the launch sites; it does not manufacture them.
Of the 10 lease, complex and redevelopment relations on this map, 10 reach ground in Brevard County, and 2 of them rest on a lease or use agreement held directly by the source and cited on the edge. One more rests on an agreement with Space Florida, which itself holds the use permit from the owner, and is typed occupies under agreement rather than leases. The authority holds standing powers over the statutory territory through 8 administers territory relations, and the Spaceport Improvement Program funds 4 projects on this map. Public finance relations sit in their own family and are not part of the industrial subgraph.
The Spaceport Improvement Program is a Florida Department of Transportation program administered with Space Florida. The department is the funding partner and the authority runs the call for projects [SFLEG24] [SB968AN]. CS/SB 968 also authorized the department to fund spaceport discretionary capacity improvement projects at up to 100 percent [CH202476].
